Baltimore’s Pre-apprenticeship Construction Training Program

BetterU Construction Training is a 16-week pre-apprenticeship program for Baltimore residents with a high school diploma or GED. Experienced teachers prepare our students for success in the construction trades with an overview of entry-level plumbing, carpentry, and electrical skills.

Students also receive essential safety training, financial coaching, a stipend and driver’s education. Graduates were placed in industry employment with a $20/hr average starting wage.

Why Choose the BetterU Construction Training?

BetterU Construction Training classes are designed to model a real job site and provide students with hands-on experience.  With a focus on accountability, skills mastery and mathematics, you’ll leave the program ready for entry-level work on any construction site and the opportunity to develop the skills of a trade.

BetterU Construction Program provides –

  • Pre-apprenticeship training in entry-level plumbing, electrical, and carpentry skills
  • Classroom hands-on instruction, 3 evenings per week, 16 weeks
  • Math refresher and literacy refresher classes
  • Stipend per class if on time
  • Individual case management
  • Certifications in OSHA 10 Safety, First Aid, CPR, and Flagger
  • Driver’s education and money management courses
  • Job placement and employment retention services

Spring Class Schedule:

Spring classes will begin on Monday, January 29, 2024.  Priority registration will open on October 1, 2023.
General registration opens November 1, 2023 – December 15, 2023.

Summer Class Schedule:

Summer classes will begin on Monday, May 10, 2024.  Priority registration will open on February 1, 2024.
General registration opens March 1, 2024 – April 10, 2024.

Applying to the BetterU Construction Program:

  • All interested candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Baltimore City resident
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Earned a high-school diploma or GED
  • Be drug-free
  • Have a driver’s license or be willing to get one
  • Be prepared to take a math test
