Paid Sick Leave Update-SB 304 Dies in the Economic Matters Committee
Update on the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act
SB 304 DIES IN HOUSE ECONOMIC MATTERS COMMITTEE (ECM) TODAY
PLEASE CONTACT ECONOMIC MATTERS COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO EARNED SICK AND SAFE LEAVE FOR MARYLAND WORKERS
Last session, the Maryland General Assembly passed the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (MHWFA), but Governor Hogan subsequently vetoed the legislation. The Maryland General Assembly overrode his veto in the first week of the 2018 legislative session. While members of the opposition went to great lengths to delay and amend this critical benefit from the low-wage workers who need it most, this morning their efforts to delay the MWFA to July 1st via Senate Bill 304 died with an unfavorable committee vote (12-11).
Please take a moment to contact the Economic Matters (ECM) committee members who voted NO on SB 304 and THANK them for their commitment to ensuring earned sick and safe leave continues with NO DELAY. Please see below for the list of ECM legislators who voted NO:
